Julia Wheatley

Julia Wheatley is an artist working across painting and collage whose practice examines distortion as both a visual phenomenon and a cultural condition. Using a glass block window as a recurring device, she paints scenes as they appear through fractured surfaces where light bends, bodies warp, and space dissolves.

Drawing from fashion editorials and mediated imagery, Wheatley fragments and reassembles familiar forms, revealing the systems that shape visibility, desire, and perception. Translating these distortions into paint slows an otherwise instantaneous process, holding tension between seduction and obstruction, intimacy and distance.
