Century of Color traces a century of Black life and artistic expression, where liberation emerges not only through resistance, but also through joy, care, refusal, and pleasure. In this context, beauty becomes an act of defiance, and pleasure operates as a political force that challenging systems that seek to limit who is allowed to imagine freely.
Artists are invited to consider liberation as a lived and evolving process, explored through memory, critique, and self-determined futures. Color functions as both aesthetic choice and visual language, carrying emotion, history, and intention beyond representation alone.
Century of Color ultimately asks a central question: what does freedom look like when imagined without permission and when articulated through one’s own voice, body, and color?
